Why Is Integrative Physiotherapy Important?
In a world where chronic pain, recurring injuries, and nervous system dysregulation are rising, traditional physiotherapy only addresses the surface level issues. This creates a disconnect between our understanding of how the human body functions. The fact is that no two systems in the body are operating in isolation. If the mind is stressed, the body will be too.
At Lionheart Integrative Therapies in Collingwood, we understand the body is an interplay of systems designed to work in harmonious flow throughout all four seasons. Hence, why the consideration of the whole person, body, mind, energy, environment and lifestyle is paramount when conducting an Initial Physiotherapy Appointment.
“Too often, we treat the branches of dysfunction while the root remains untouched. Integrative physiotherapy brings the axe to the root.”
What Makes An Integrative Physiotherpy Session?
The biggest differentiating factor is the breadth of assessment of the client’s health. The client’s health history, lifestyle habits, energetic and physical health status are taken into consideration in determining the differential diagnosis and likely causes of the presenting issue.
Unlike conventional physio, that tends to favour isolating and treating the symptoms, an integrative approach aims to address the biopsychosocial causes of pain, injury and dysfunction. The integrative physiotherapist invites a deeper layer of understanding and opportunity for lasting recovery that goes beyond the surface of symptoms to treat the real reason why the pain has presented.
Treatment may include modalities such as; Fascial Manipulation Therapy Dynamic Neuromuscular Stability informed movement therapy, biomechanical functional movement assessments, evidence-informed bodywork and manual therapy and eastern energetic modalities such as; Yoga, Sound & Vibrational Therapy & Meditation.
